Higher education relations between Hungary and Indonesia have been continuously strengthening in recent years. One of the most important pillars of cooperation between the two countries is the Stipendium Hungaricum (SH) scholarship program, under which a maximum of 110 Indonesian students can begin their studies at Hungarian universities each year. The program is very popular in Indonesia and contributes to more and more Indonesian young people getting to know Hungarian higher education, culture and research environment. The program can be found at: https://stipendiumhungaricum.hu/ and https://studyinhungary.hu/
About 180 people are registered in the alumni community operating in Indonesia, which can be found at: https://alumninetworkhungary.hu/ Hungary provides a total of about 600 scholarships to ASEAN member states annually within the framework of the SH.
In addition to student mobility, institutional cooperation is also expanding. More and more Hungarian universities are interested in Indonesia, which is also reflected in the increase in the number of education-related delegations. Representatives of Hungarian higher education institutions regularly visit Indonesia to establish partnerships, prepare joint research and exchange programs. Among others, the Universities of Pécs and Szeged, Pázmány Péter Catholic University, Budapest University of Technology and Economics, Semmelweis University, Budapest Metropolitan University, Eszterházy Károly Catholic University, the University of Debrecen, and other institutions have established such relationships with Indonesian partners. Delegations from Indonesian universities and educational institutions also often travel to Hungary in order to develop similar cooperation.
Hungarian higher education also has an annual opportunity to appear at one of Indonesia’s largest international educational events, the European Higher Education Fair (EHEF), where Hungarian universities and students interested in the Stipendium Hungaricum program can meet directly. Such events play an important role in further strengthening the visibility of Hungarian higher education in Indonesia.
Increasing student mobility, increasingly active university collaborations, and participation in educational exhibitions and professional forums all contribute to the dynamic development of Hungarian-Indonesian educational relations and create a strong foundation for scientific and cultural cooperation in the long term.
